Now Push

I think everyone knows by now, that Chauvin was convicted on all counts for the murder of George Floyd. I think we all know that the verdict was a welcomed one and a rare one. Everyone has heard VP Harris, President Biden, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and every political pundit speak about it. I also think we are all aware of the celebration that occurred in the streets. I also know that I do not have a lot to add to that conversation because I think it has all been said. And I also think that most people get that this is only the next step in a much bigger quest for justice. AOC has an appropriate quote for the verdict: “Verdicts are not substitutes for policy change.”

This is even more evident because hours later, we discovered the police in Columbus, Ohio shot and killed a 16 year old black girl. So, I am happy that Floyd’s family has some measure of justice that the man who murdered their father, son, brother, and friend will serve time. It does not happen often; so that should be acknowledged and celebrated. But, the fight continues because this has to stop before the person loses their life.
